Soft Graduated ND8 Filter Plus

I bought the hard as well, but use the soft more. Easy to align, doesn’t slip. Does exactly what I expect. Can be combined with my Urth magnetic filters.

I have had many different brands of Graduated ND over the years but have never been satisfied - they are either too dark or too light or don't allow a gentle transition...until I discovered the Urth Soft Graduated filter. I use this filter mainly photographing trees and the images are used for science, research and promotion for a Botanic Garden. The transition from the lower part of the tree to that part with a sky background is no longer a problem as the trees are now in an even gradation and as a bonus the sky is not washed out but rather the blue is retained and the clouds now visible.

I just spent two days in the Alberta Badlands using this filter on a Canon RF16-28 F2.8 & RF28-70 F2.8 lens. Without it I would have had to close up the aperture or suffer over exposure on every shot, but with this filter on I was able to capture flowering cactus and hoodoos at a nice variety of depth of field, while getting a nice graduated effect in the sky. Very easy to adjust depending on the camera body angle and quicker to use than a polarizer with the camera mounted low to the ground on a tripod. The result was excellent contrast and shadow detail on the ground and with the few clouds in the sky. Too bad it doesn’t come as a magnetic attachment to easily swap between lenses, especially in sandy conditions, but maybe in the future.
