Frequently asked questions
Which filter should I use in which situation?
UV stays on for everyday lens protection, CPL cuts glare and deepens skies (about 1.3 stops), ND8 gives a fixed 3-stop reduction for moderate light control in handheld shooting, and ND1000 gives a fixed 10-stop reduction for daytime long exposures.
What's included in the Essentials Kit Pro, and do I need separate lens caps?
One each of UV, CPL, ND8 and ND1000 Pro, plus front and back lens caps — sized to the diameter you select at purchase.
Can I use a regular lens cap with the Essentials Kit Pro Filters?
Yes. Any clip-on or side-pinch lens cap sized to the filter's thread diameter works as a cover.
Can I use a step up ring adapter with the Essentials Kit Pro?
Yes. All four filters are compatible with Urth's Threaded Step Up Ring Filter Adapter. Select the Step Up Ring Filter Adapter, not the magnetic version.
Are Urth Pro Filters compatible with retractable lenses?
Not always. Urth Pro Filters have a larger outer diameter than other Urth Filters, particularly the Variable ND Pro with its wider, stepped front, which can catch the lens as it extends or retracts. Retractable lenses, such as the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2.8 or the Leica D-Lux 8, can also be sensitive to added weight, so a filter may add resistance to the movement even when nothing is in the way. If you’re unsure about your lens, contact our team before purchasing.
Will any of these filters affect sharpness or introduce a colour cast?
No. All four carry the 34-layer CoraNano™ Max coating with True Color transmission. The UV holds 99.28% light transmission and under 0.15% reflectance, and the CPL holds ≤0.5% reflectance, so stacking or swapping between them won't shift your white balance.
